How it works

Four tabs, one habit

Learn a concept, practise it, apply it in a genre, and keep an honest record of where you stand.

01 / Learn

Lessons that end in a question

Each path moves from foundations to diagnosis in five lessons. A lesson explains one idea in numbered steps, then hands you practice on exactly that idea. Lessons run from 3 to 45 minutes.

  • Paths run from Drum Programming and Harmony to EQ, Sidechain and Remix.
  • Questions you get wrong stay in Mistake Review until you answer them correctly.
  • Some lessons send you to your DAW with a short guided checklist instead.

02 / Practice

Something worth doing today

The Practice tab suggests an exercise based on your self-ratings and what you've practised recently. If you'd rather follow a routine, a fixed seven-day rotation gives each day a focus.

  • Rotation days: reproduction, restriction, sound design, arrangement, mixing, free production and ear training.
  • A drill library to search, filter and save.
  • A built-in session timer with a checklist for each drill.

03 / Genres

Five days inside one genre

Pick a genre, from Deep House to Drumfunk, and work through a five-day intensive. Each day is one focused session with a short checklist, built around that genre's tempo, sounds and reference points.

  • Day by day: rhythm, harmony and bass, sound design, arrangement, then finishing.
  • Steps link to the lesson that explains them, and bring you back to the same day.
  • Genre families run from House and Techno to Jazz, Folk and Experimental.

04 / Progress

Your rating and your results, kept apart

Once a week, rate each production skill from 1 to 10. Sonivault keeps that self-rating separate from the evidence your graded answers build up, so you can see where the two disagree.

  • Weakest skills listed first, with a weekly trend.
  • A history of graded attempts for each skill.
The Progress tab before any ratings: an average self-rating out of 10, a Score this week's skills button, and the 20 skills grouped into categories such as Rhythm, Harmony and Bass, and Mixing.

A question from the Harmony path

A real beginner question, with the explanation Sonivault gives.

Harmony Beginner
A chord built from the notes C, E♭ and G. What quality is it?
Show the answer

Minor. C to E♭ is a minor third, and G completes the minor triad.

It works as it does in the app: Submit locks in your answer, and a wrong answer can be tried again.

Privacy

Your progress stays on your iPhone

  • No account or sign-in.
  • No network connections, and no analytics, advertising or tracking code.
  • Lessons, audio and exercises are built into the app, so it works offline.
  • Reset Progress in Settings erases your progress from the device.
